Perth County Information Network

As part of the Perth County Information Network (PCIN), West Perth Library patrons have access to the network catalogue which contains the holdings of the West Perth Public Library, Stratford Public Library, Perth East Public Library, St. Marys Public Library and North Perth Public Library.  Items can be signed out and/or returned at any of the 5 locations.

Reciprocal Borrowing

As part of PCIN, West Perth Public Library patrons can receive borrowing privileges from participating communities. Commuities included in the reciprocal borrowing agreement include Huron County, Waterloo Regional, Wellington County and Oxford County. A card can be obtained by presenting a piece of identification with their address (ie. drivier's license, age of majority card) at these locations.  Likewise, patrons of these libraries are welcome to get a card from West Perth Public Library by presenting a piece of identification with their address.

Interlibrary Loan

West Perth Public Library is also part of the INFO network of public libraries in Ontario.  If an item is unable to be found on the PCIN network, a request may be left at the desk and we will search the INFO database.  If the item is found in the database, it usually arrives in 2-3 weeks.

Public Internet Access

West Perth Public Library offers patrons 4 computers for access to the Internet.  2 of these computers are equipped with word processing software.  It is possible to take a chance that a computer is available when you visit.  However, to be assured a spot, please phone and book a time.

Meeting Space

There is a small meeting space on the upper floor of the addition, which is serviced by the elevator.  There is wireless internet access available as well as a projector screen.  The space is available for booking during regular library hours.

Books for Book Clubs

West Perth Public Library can supply enough copies of titles for book club meetings. Titles must be more than 1 year since publication and must be ordered in sufficient time to receive all copies before the meeting at which they are handed out. Please contact the library for further information and the book club form.

Educator Cards

Any educator currently working at an education facility in Perth County is eligible for an Educator Card. This includes K-12 classroom teachers in public and private schools, daycare center instructors and homeschoolers.

To apply for an Educator Card, visit the Library with the following items
  • Photo ID
  • Proof of current address (Proof can consist of a piece of mail address to the applicant, a checkbook or car insurance)
Educators are required to have a personal library card to be eligible for an Educator Card.

The Educator Card is designed to help make full use of the library's resources.
  • Check out most items for double the standard loan period
  • Renew most items 1 time (Renewal is unavailable if the item is reserved for another customer)
  • Pay no late fees (Payment is required for lost or damaged items)
  • Personal library card and educator card accounts are totally separate

Limits
  • An Educator Card expires June 30 and needs to be renewed annually
  • The card is non-transferable: can only be used by the cardholder for educational purposes

Chess Boards

Chess boards and playing pieces are available at the library for a pick-up game at any time if players come into the library. Please ask at the desk.
